Riding a scooter on hilly terrain at breakneck speed is something unheard of. Not many would risk doing that, that too in the rain.
But on Sunday, July 6, 32 two-wheeler racing freaks broke all rules and did exactly that as they went through the motions in Gulf Oil's 19th Monsoon Scooter Rally, organized by Sportscraft, along the backwoods of Navi Mumbai.

In what was a stiff test of both man and machine, these riders braved punishing conditions to come out through the exercise with aplomb.
And the one to emerge best among them was none other than Manjit Singh Bassan. The lanky Sardar, who was champion in 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2007, was, as in previous years, astride his trusted LML Vespa.
He rode it with gay abandon to beat back a strong challenge from a host of other seasoned riders, including former champions Shamim Khan and Rustom Patel, and emerge triumphant for the fifth time, though only by a slender margin.
