S M Krishna returns to Karnataka to a hero's welcome

March 17, 2008
There was immense hype surrounding his return and a not a single day passed without the media making a mention of it. S M Krishna, former chief minister of Karnataka finally returned to Karnataka on Monday to a rousing welcome.

The HAL airport in Bengaluru had not seen activity of this magnitude in a long time. As the flight carrying Krishna touched down at around 12 noon, nearly 8,000 supporters cheered on and shouted slogans such as 'Long live S M Krishna'.

Krishna made his first impact in Bengaluru when he cancelled most of the arrangements that were made for his return. He was to be taken in an open jeep and paraded around the city to announce that the Congress messiah for Karnataka had returned.

However Krishna, who is well aware of the messy Bengaluru traffic, ordered for these elaborate arrangements to be cancelled. His supporters told that Krishna did not want to be responsible for creating a huge traffic jam, and in the process draw the ire of the general public. He did not want his first impression to be a bad one, his supporters said.
