Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Aurora, 1917- 2005.

Lt Gen Aurora became the face of India's military might when, 35 years ago, Pakistan's Lieutenant General Ameer Abdullah Khan Niazi surrendered before him along with 90,000 troops in the war to liberate Bangladesh.

The nation on Thursday saluted the brave war hero.

The mortal remains of Lt Gen Aurora were cremated at the Brar Square crematorium at the Delhi cantonment with full military honours.
