'I want to stop doing pseudo crap'

In the last two months, John Abraham has been constantly in the news -- be it his movie releases (Baabul, Kabul Express and Salaam-e-Ishq), photographer Subi Samuel's calendar showcasing the star, or the launch of John's own brand of apparels.

It keeps getting better. His film Water -- directed by Deepa Mehta -- has been nominated for the Oscars, and his performance has been critically acclaimed.

When we caught up with John and asked him about Water and his busy life, John seemed pretty excited and yet quite disillusioned. He seemed upset about doing 'insurance' films with big star casts; thought Salaam-e-Ishq was much too long, and said that he preferred to work in small films with bigger ideas.

The John we spoke to was also very different from the one we think we know. After all, would you have thought that this star lives in a one-room apartment (in the western Mumbai suburb of Bandra)? And that his sofa converts into a bed?

John Abraham gives great insights to his life and films to Ronjita Kulkarni. Read on.
