It was always going to be an uphill task, making a sports film after a hockey movie that created a bit of a revolution, but this Vivek Agnihotri movie was such painful tripe that it even made football seem boring.
John Abraham kicked fancy, but nothing else gelled as the filmmakers tried to ladle on all the ingredients -- race squabbles, Indo-Pak relations, romance, high drama, injury, sporting rivalries, economic disparity and, of course, a disgraced coach. The result was a mediocre bowl of badly mixed masala, outdated and formulaic.
It's Bipasha Basu's worst-ever performance -- that just about says it all.
Why it isn't the absolute worst?
Because it tries really hard, and somewhere you can see a good idea buried by bad handling.
