It's been a year for the Bollywood man. Several prominent actresses ignored the box office this year, while several others were made prominent simply by appearing alongside their more-bankable male counterparts -- who scored superhits by the gallon.

Yet there were some ladies that shone: an actress coming into her own; a striking debutante; item-girls gone good, and a couple of starlets who stamped their authority all over the news channels.

In the Rediff Powerlist, we declare the best of the biz. The following women are Bollywood's most important, based on the complete package of performance, profitability, and perception.
