Daddy & Sons

December 18, 2007

Not often do you find one family holding an entire state to ransom.

May we present H D Deve Gowda & Sons?

For the last couple of years, HDDG&Sons, which is fondly and sarcastically known as the first family, controlled the destiny of millions of people in Karnataka, not to mention the fates of several netas.

Right from the day the assembly election results were declared, Deve Gowda, the Janata Dal-Secular supremo and former prime minister, has controlled Karnataka politics. He ensured that S M Krishna, the Congressman, former chief minister and fellow Vokkaliga, was kept out.

Deve Gowda, left, preferred the more plaint Dharam Singh as chief minister, and thus run a proxy government.
