Parijan Biwi was left with only the sari she was wearing the night some men set fire to her house. She and her family spent 21 days at a relief camp and returned recently to their ancestral village home in Satangabari. Parijan Biwi is now trying to pick up the threads of life in her destroyed home.
She and her family have been subsisting on rice and a pinch of salt. What is worse is when women in the family menstruate, they either have to lock themselves in a room or hide in the bushes far away in search of privacy.
"It is so humiliating," says Parijan Biwi, her voice choking with emotion.
On getting a small bag of clothes, medicine and money, tears roll down her eyes. "Bhagobaan aapnader mongol karun (May God bless you)," she says.
