The fate of the dispossessed

December 7, 2007

Each marcher had a story of misfortune to relate. While the Adivasis complained that they were thrown out of the forests under the pretext of forest protection, the Dalits complained they were not given possession of their land.

For each of them it was a question of survival and they came with great hopes from the march.

Ekta Parishad, an NGO which took note of their problems, conducted the march in the manner of the Mahatma: A non-violent and continued fight until the goal is reached. For a year, the marchers were trained on Gandhian values.
