A ray of light for the landless

December 7, 2007

When 25,000 people from 18 states walked 325 kilometres to New Delhi and demanded restoration of the ownership of their land, it seemed Gandhigiri had returned to India once again.

For the people who took part in the historic Janadesh rally, it was a last attempt for survival.

Thrown off their land with no means to survive, the Satyagrahis of Janadesh -- as they called themselves -- embarked upon a march with a three-point agenda. They sought the implementation of a national land policy, a national land commission and a fast track court for the benefit of the poor in the country.
