Despair and Hope

The predicament of Saedabad and Moosrambagh

December 6, 2007

Most of the young men picked up in connection with the blasts hail from the Saedabad and Moosrambagh areas in the city, where their parents hopefully await their sons's return.

Rahim, 24, an autorickshaw driver who was picked up by the police, was his family's sole breadwinner. He has his parents and three brothers to support. His father Mohammad Abdul Razaak and mother Hausiya Begum have tears in their eyes when they talk about their son. "Ask the neighbours and they will tell you about my son."

Jameel, an activist with the Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee, says the only fault of these young men is that they are neighbours or were acquainted during their school days with Shahid Bilal, who the police say is behind the blasts in Hyderabad. "I don't think this can be ground to arrest these boys," says Jameel.
