Money talks. And no one knows it better than Rizwanur's family.
"How can I forget that Ashok Todi told Rizwan and his uncles -- 'Ladki ko chod dijiye. Take this blank cheque.' (Leave the girl, take this blank cheque)", says Rizwanur's mother Kishwar Jehan. "Who decides the value of a human life -- the rich? What is the criterion for selection?" says the bereaved mother, her voice choking.
For someone trying to cope with her son’s untimely death, the CBI's attitude disturbs her greatly. "Insults are being hurled at us every now and then. We are even being accused of having accepted money to 'set Priayanka free,'" she says.
After Rizwanur's death, his brother Rukbanur has diligently shouldered the responsibility of protecting the family from the police, the media, even goons.
"At times," he sighs, "we feel helpless and bewildered. If the slow pace of the CBI investigation irks us, an over-enthusiastic media irritates us no less. We beg for peace and a little bit of heart."
