Ten trends that shaped India this year

3. MMS: Pocket porn

It began a year ago, with a Delhi schoolboy filming his girlfriend using a camera-phone. This year, it was everywhere, as multimedia messaging service, or MMS, gave pornography a new avatar.

Soon, there was a video, purportedly of Bollywood starlet Riya Sen, doing the rounds. Then came a Mallika Sherawat look-alike clip. Then came the busts -- from metros to small-town India -- of MMS rackets.

Debates raged: Had the cell phone morphed from a communication device to a mobile menace?

Then there was an 'official' promo MMS of Fardeen Khan and Koena Mitra steaming up hype for their film Ek Khiladi Ek Hasina.

MMS has arrived. You cannot wish it away. Even if you want to.
