Picking an XI for this World Cup is easier than it seems. At first, it would appear that this lumbering beast of a World Cup, comprising of 51 matches over six weeks, must surely have too many individual performances of merit to arrive at an XI easily. But that is not so. Too many of the teams played below par. And there were too many meaningless matches.
For the purpose of our XI, we've focussed on matches that mattered. A century against a minnow counts for little here, or a burst of wickets in a dead-rubber game. Performances in the semi-final and final especially matter: it's big-game temperament that makes World Cup stars. No wonder, then, that our XI is dominated by Australians.
So, without much further ado, here's our 2007 World Cup XI:
