Sun sets on Lara's ODI innings

April 11, 2007
"My game is over," an emotional Brian Lara said after the West Indies lost to South Africa in the Super Eights World Cup match in Grenada on Tuesday. The defeat all but ended the hosts' hopes of making it to the semi-finals.

Frustrated by an indifferent performance from his team, the left-hander chose to call it a day, telling reporters, "I think this is the end of my one-day career, for sure."

The 37-year-old batting ace will lead the West Indies against Bangladesh and England in the remaining Super Eights matches and though the semi-final hopes have vanished, he said the matches matter a lot for the team.

"These might be my last two one-day internationals but I still want to see the team moving out of this competition learning something from it and that's all I can hope for," he said.
