Arun Vaidyanathan, of New Jersey, is among other things a film-maker with a growing curriculum vitae and reputation, especially in the field of shorts and documentaries.
His short film in the horror film genre, the Seance, has been particularly well received -- it has featured on the Sundance channel, and was the official selection of, among others, the 7th Annual Chicago Horror Film Festival, the UK Horror Festival and the Terror Film Festival, among others.
He has a personal horror story -- well, not 'horror', perhaps, but close. Shortly before this World Cup began, he brought his parents over from India to live with him in New Jersey, so they could watch the cricket in comfort.
India's early exit torpedoed that plan. From the resulting disappointment was born this spoof on Sachin Tendulkar which, in his words, "originated because of the frustration and disappointment of the whole Indian cricket team's early exit."
The concept and direction is the work of two people: Arun, and his friend Ramzan Lakhani, of Digimax Studio. The two also front the camera: Arun voices for Sachin, while Lakhani plays the anchor; another friend, Raghu, operated both cameras.
Currently, Arun and Ramzan are working on funding for a feature-length version of the Seance; on another level, Arun is working to fund a Tamil feature film, a suspense thriller that is set in the US.
A note from the film-maker: Please note that this is a spoof, and is not intended to cause hurt to either Sachin, or his legion of fans
