Bollywood's underrated romances

Feb 9, 2007
Not every reel romance can achieve the epic status of a Mughal-E-Azam, Barsaat, Kabhi Kabhie or Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. That doesn't make other candidates any less special.

Over the years, quite a few love stories came, saw and conquered our hearts in their own unique way.

With Valentine's Day next week, rediff.com celebrates L-O-V-E through some of the most overlooked, underrated and lost Hindi film romances.

Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa

Who's there? Shah Rukh Khan, Suchitra Krishnamurthy, Deepak Tijori, Naseeruddin Shah.

What's it about? He's (SRK) high on Anna (Krishnamurthy), low on academics! She likes him, loves another (Tijori). Heartbreak is certain. Hey, wait! There's hope. Or better still, Juhi Chawla.

A class act: SRK dominates Kundan Shah's low-budget beauty with his eager but endearing lover boy act. Although it is DDLJ that enjoys historic status, this one ranks as one of his best performances. No hamming, no stuttering, no hyper hand movements, simply SRK, straight from the heart.
