Borg: 41. Federer: 41
July 7, 2008
On his way to win a sixth successive title, Borg, left, went down 4-6, 7-6, 7-6, 6-4 to McEnroe in the 1981 final.

His winning streak at Wimbledon ended at 41 wins. As did Federer's, when he was defeated by Nadal 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 9-7 in the longest men's final of the Championships.
Both Borg and Federer finally succumbed to their respective challengers after carving out hard-fought wins (in five sets) the previous years to earn a record of five straight titles at Wimbledon.
Borg had prevailed over McEnroe 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-7 (16), 8-6 in the 1980 final -- what many consider the greatest Wimbledon final ever -- while Federer ended Nadal's stunning run 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-2 in almost four hours last year.
