Sunday's final followed a script similar to the 1981 championship match between John McEnroe and Borg.
The Swede, who won five straight Wimbledon titles from 1976 to 1980, picked Nadal ahead of Federer to win the title at the All England Club this year. Perhaps intuition, perhaps experience.
A superstar of his time, Borg, like Federer, was an overwhelming favourite in every tournament he entered. Especially the French Open and Wimbledon, where he held six and five titles respectively.
But he found his nemesis on grass in tennis' wildchild, pictured left.
