America's 31-year-old Lori McNeil dislodged reigning champion Steffi Graf in two close sets 7-5, 7-6(5) in the opening round of the Championships in 1994.
McNeil, ranked 22nd, used the momentum from the stunning victory to carry her to the semi-finals at Wimbledon that year.
Four years later, Graf bowed out in the third round after a 4-6, 5-7 loss to Belarussian Natasha Zverera, who recorded her first win over the German at Centre Court.
