On Tuesday, for the first time in Wimbledon history, the ladies quarter-finals did not feature any of the top four seeds.
World number one Ana Ivanovic and former champion Maria Sharapova were knocked out in the first week itself, while Serb Jelena Jankovic and Svetlana Kuznetsova joined the scrapheap in the fourth round.
We take a look at some of the biggest upsets in the ladies draw in recent years at Wimbledon.
Gabriela Sabatini
In 1988, Sabatini's closest rival, Steffi Graf had achieved the Golden Grand Slam.
The pressure was on the Argentine to show results, but she came up short at Wimbledon, losing in the second round itself.
Ranked No 3 in the world then, Sabatini went down to world No 37 Rosalyn Nideffer of Russia 6-4, 6-3 in 1989.
