Vishwanathan Anand continued his winning ways as he annexed the 13th Grenkeleasing Rapid World Championship on Sunday.
Anand beat young Norwegian Magnus Carlsen 3-1 in the four-game final.
It was Anand's 11th title in the city of Mainz, which hosts an annual chess event. The world number one, a 10-time winner of the rapid title including seven times on the trot afer the annual event was shifted from Frankfurt in 2001, had won 36 games and drew four, to set a record of 38-2 in the inaugural edition in 1994.
This year, Anand drew with Roland Durmeier and Dmitrij Bondarew while registering victories over the rest of the field for a tally of 39-1.
