Sports Minister M S Gill has pulled the country's sports federations saying they must be made accountable for their sport's performance.
The minister also declared that the sports scene in the country is due for a major overhaul and he would do the needful. He added that hockey is everyone's game, and it is a game of sentiments and has to be pushed to the top again and again.
Barely a fortnight after taking over as the sports minister, Gill on Wednesday provided men's hockey in the country a new lease of life by upgrading it to the 'Priority' category, along with seven other disciplines. The development came as a surprise, as the game has been in the news for all the wrong reasons of late, the bribe scandal involving Indian Hockey Federation secretary-general K Jothikumaran being the latest in a long list of controversies plaguing the establishment.
