Banel Nicolita scored a 70th-minute own-goal to give Real Madrid a 1-0 win over Steaua Bucharest and a spot in the
second round.
Nicolita sent the ball gently into the net in an attempted back-pass which found goalkeeper Cornel Cernea positioned to the
left of his goal.
Madrid had a chance to add to the lead three minutes later but Ruud van Nistelrooy missed.
The nine-time champions are second in Group E with nine points from four games. Steaua, which now has no chance of advancing,
stays third with three points.
