A first-half winner by young striker Karim Benzema (center) gave Olympique Lyon a 1-0 victory over Dynamo Kiev at the Stade Gerland stadium on Wednesday to secure a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The French champions won the first leg 3-0 in Ukraine two weeks ago but settled for a narrow victory against a brave Kiev side who stay bottom of Group E after four straight defeats.

Lyon retain top spot on a maximum 12 points and, with only two matches to play in the group stage, they are guaranteed a place in the knockout round which starts in February.
