The Monaco Grand Prix

Mechanics push German driver Michael Schumacher's car after it stopped at the Monaco racetrack during the qualifying session on Saturday.

Schumacher was banished to the back of the Monaco Grand Prix starting grid after stewards found him guilty of a driving infringement and stripped him of pole position.

The stewards said in a statement that the seven times Formula One champion had deliberately stopped his car on the track at the penultimate Rascasse corner in the closing seconds of qualifying, preventing rivals from setting a faster time.

Renault's Spanish ace Fernando Alonso won the race. Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya was second in a McLaren and David Coulthard took third place to grab RedBull's first podium.

Reubens Barrichello held off former team-mate Michael Schumacher for fourth place. Giancarlo Fisichella was sixth, with Nick Heidfeld a lap back in seventh.
