Want to join the French team?

The Road to Berlin

Claude Makelele

Makelele (in white) hails from Kinshasa on the Congo river in Zaire, Africa.

'Maka' came to live in a quiet and distant suburb of Paris when he was four. His dad also played football, but for the Congo national team and later the Belgians.

Claude learnt his football at a training school at Brest.

He played for Spanish football club team Real Madrid before joining English club Chelsea FC at the cost of 15 million pounds. He is dating model Noemie Lenoir, who is of mixed French-Reunionese (Madagascar) descent; they have a son, Kelyan.

The defensive midfielder is considered a rock of a player who has always stood France well.
