Beckham's high and lows

With England in disarray after Kevin Keegan quit as coach following a 1-0 defeat by Germany at Wembley, caretaker manager Peter Taylor named Beckham as captain for a 1-0 friendly defeat by Italy in Turin on November 15, 2000.

Beckham kept the captain's armband after Sven-Goran Eriksson's appointment as coach and the two men formed an unshakeable alliance.

November 15, 2000: Beckham takes a free-kick during the friendly game against Italy at the Stadio Delle Alpi, in Turin, Italy. The Italians won the match 1-0.
