Mauresmo finally gets it right
For years, Amelie Mauresmo was the unlucky loser. After every courageous beginning she would run out of gas on the threshold of victory. However hard she tried it was never enough; she seemed destined to lose out on the big titles.
Though a Grand Slam is still a dream, Mauresmo showed the nerve for the big stage when she fought back from a set down to win the season-ending WTA Championships in Los Angeles on Sunday.
In a tournament featuring the world's best, Mauresmo overcame compatriot Mary Pierce 5-7, 7-6, 6-4 in the final to become the first Frenchwoman to win the championship.
