The Final Four
Mary Pierce
The Frenchwoman has not been this far in a Grand Slam tournament since she won the French Open in 2000.
She had then become the first French woman to win at Roland Garros in 33 years. Her victory was, however, greeted with ambivalence by the French because of her American accent. This time round she hopes things will be very different.
Now 30, Pierce is not the only semi-finalist in the twilight of her career. Her opponent is 29-year-old Elena Likhovtseva.
"I beat her easily a few weeks ago in Berlin and I will be the favorite on paper but that will perhaps make it even more difficult," added Pierce.
