Bassan emerged winner under fortuitous circumstances as Rustom Patel, who clocked the best time, was disqualified after it was detected during the post-event scrutiny of the vehicles that he had made an illegal modification on his scooter.
After much deliberation by the stewards and technical delegates, it was ruled that Rustom had changed his stock piston and bore. Thus Bassan, who had finished two minutes and 57 seconds behind Patel, was elevated to first place.
