Reigning in the rain

Come the rains and it's time for Sportscraft's Monsoon Scooter Rally.

On Sunday, July 3, the best-known name in the organisation of motor sport in India staged the 15th edition of the two-wheeler competition. Sponsored by Gulf Oil Limited, the event had all the trappings of high action along the backwoods of Navi Mumbai.

If riding on Mumbai's pothole-ridden roads is considered a nightmare, then think what must have been the plight of the 21 riders who braved the elements.

Arshad Shaikh, who emerged the best first timer, weaves his Honda Activa through the serpentine rocky course in one of the competitve stages.

Manjit Singh Bassan won the rally, thus denying defending champion Shamim Khan a hat-trick of titles.
