US Open: The Leading Men
1-Roger Federer (Switzerland)
Age 24
Plays: Right-handed
Grand Slam titles: Five (Wimbledon 2003, 2004 and 2005, Australian Open 2004, U.S. Open 2004)
The world number one set new standards of excellence in completing his hat-trick of Wimbledon titles in July and is strong favourite to retain his Flushing Meadows crown.
Possesses the calmest of temperaments and a game that is the envy of all his opponents, highlighted by a crunching forehand, an exquisite backhand and feline athleticism around the court.
Resting is difficult, however, when you beat almost every opponent so Federer took a six-week break after Wimbledon and his win in Cincinnati on his return showed he is in prime form for the final Grand Slam of the season.
