Pass the Flame, unite the world
Thalia Prokopiou, acting as high priestess, raises the Olympic Flame on Thursday in the ancient sanctuary where the Olympic Games were born in 776 B.C.
The Flame, symbolizing the Olympic spirit, will burn at the Athens Olympic Games, from August 13 to 29.
In ancient Greece, fire symbolised the creation of the world as well as renewal and light.
