Is Manchester United finished?

One should have sensed trouble was brewing at the start of the season itself. Two very important figures in the club decided to pack their bags and move. England captain David Beckham, who had for long been a player Man United's fans identified with, was sold to Real Madrid. Seven players have occupied his right-wing berth since he left for the Spanish giants, but none with his quality and assurance.

Carlos Queiroz, Ferguson's assistant manager, followed Beckham to Spain. A vital cog in United's machinery, Queiroz was replaced only two weeks back by Walter Smith, who is hardly his equal.
