Ronaldinho of Barcelona and Brazil poses with the FIFA Player of the Year award at the FIFA World Player Gala 2004 at the Zurich Opera House on Monday night.
The 24 year old won the award for the first time totalling 620 points. He was followed by Thierry Henry of Arsenal and France on 552. Andriy Shevchenko of AC Milan and Ukraine was third on 253.
He is the fourth Brazilian to capture the award since its introduction in 1991 after Romario (1994), three times winner Ronaldo (1996, 1997 and 2002) and Rivaldo (1999).
