Justin Gatlin of the United States (right) leads the field to win the Olympic men's 100 metres final. He finished ahead of Portugal's Francis Obikwelu (2nd from right), Jamaica's Asafa Powell and Maurice Greene (left) of the U.S., in Athens on Sunday night.
Gatlin flew across the line in 9.85 seconds, one-hundredth of a second ahead of Obikwelu, with defending champion Greene a further hundredth of a second in third place after the closest ever Olympic 100 metres finish.
