India's Nikhil Kanetkar jubilates after beating Spain's Sergio Llopis in the first round of the men's singles Olympic Games badminton competition, at the Goudi Olympic Hall in Athens on Monday.

Kanetkar fought off strong resistance from the 44th ranked Spaniard to win 15-7, 13-15, 15-13 and enter the last 16.

He next meets former World champion Peter Gade of Denmark, who thrashed Chinese Taipei's Yu-Hsiu Chien 15-6, 15-1 in the first round.
