The Year That Was - WTA

The Australian Open

Serena Williams became only the fifth woman to hold all four tennis majors at the same time when she won the Australian Open beating elder sister Venus 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 6-4.

This was her fourth consecutive Grand Slam, after she had won the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open in 2002.

She and Venus also became the first duo to reach four straight Grand Slam finals in the open era.
