The West Asia peace process was blown to smithereens in 2008. Claiming that the Hamas-led Palestinian government had violated the ceasefire by firing rockets against communes in the western Negev desert, Israeli fighter jets struck massively all over the Gaza Strip.
Over 500 people have been killed in the unprecedented operation. The Israelis continue to target Hamas complexes and security compounds amid global condemnation. Only Israel's closest ally, the United States, stands by it and blames Hamas squarely for the airstrikes.
