Lalbaug cha Raja turns 75

September 02, 2008
Even as Mumbai gears up to celebrate the 11-day long Ganeshotsav, one of the most revered Ganeshas in the metropolis -- Lalbaug cha Raja -- is turning 75 this year.

Every year, lakhs of devotees visit Lalbaug cha Raja to seek blessings, as it is believed that it fulfils the wishes of many.

Every year, Lalbaug cha Raja is showered with copious amounts of money, coconuts, gold and silver during the 11-day Ganeshotsav. The offerings are auctioned at the end of the 11-day Ganeshotsav.

The money from the auction is used for charitable purposes like facilitating rehabilitation of victims of natural calamities, conducting free workshops for competitive exams, setting up of schools, colleges, libraries, blood banks and computer training institutes, says mandal President Sunil Dattaram Joshi.
