Is the ban on smoking up in smoke?

According to the government notification, smoking lounges should be wall to wall with the door always closed and all eight sides covered.

"After raiding several hotels, bars and restaurants, we have noticed that the clientele for these places has not gone down due to the ban on smoking," he said.

A new survey by the Assocham shows that with the ban on smoking in place, sale of tobacco products such as Gutka, Khaini, Zarda and Pan Masala in metros, including large townships across the country has shot up by nearly 150 per cent while the sale of bidis and cigarettes fell by 25 per cent in the first two weeks after the ban was imposed.
