The Indian American community in the Bay Area, which constitutes the second highest Indian-American population in the US, had arrived in large numbers to celebrate the event. Many Indian American community leaders present at the event expressed their joy at Obama's victory.
An ecstatic Yogi Chugh, president-elect of the Indian American Forum for Political Education, said, "It's an absolutely remarkable victory. Obama's victory is a defining moment for America. We were hoping right from the beginning that Obama would win. But as they say in politics, one should not anticipate anything. Now we are delighted that he is the next president."
Earlier today, over 100 volunteers made 36,000 phone calls to reach out to over ten thousand homes. The Bay Area headquarter had served for community organisation during Obama's campaign in California, and 4,000 volunteers worked there around the clock.
