Peaceful 2nd phase poll in K'taka

Raichur recorded the lowest turnout with 47 per cent while Udupi and Dakshin Kannada districts -- where the literate population was the highest -- recorded a turnout of 68 per cent.

Shimoga district, which houses Shikaripura -- the constituency where B S Yeddyurappa is taking on S Bangarappa, recorded a turnout of 60 per cent. The poll turnout at Bellary the mining capital of the state was at 62 per cent.

Over 60 thousand security personnel were posted across the ten districts to ensure that polling was peaceful. Security was tight at Bellary, which had a very tense run up to the elections.
