Both Shaonli and Suvaprasanna claim that their repeated pleas to the election commission to dislodge the officer-in-charge from service have fallen deaf ears and 'we are left with no option but to be there by the side of Nandigram residents. We are too small a group to resist state-orchestrated violence but for humanity's sake, we have to be there'.
The group has been urged by the election commission 'not to indulge in controversial discussions that would disturb peace'.
Meanwhile, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose had appealed to the Election Commissioner to stop this group from visiting Nandigram during the polls.
"We are grateful to the Election Commission for not heeding Bose's request," says Suvaprasanna.
Despite our repeated attempts to contact Biman Bose and Writers' Buildings, the seat of Communist power in Bengal, went in vain as red bastion loyalists refused to comment on Nandigram Panchayat elections stating it was 'improper to talk on the issue at the moment'.
