Awesome twosome

March 29, 2008
Legendary economists Professor Padma Desai, arguably the most eminent expert on the Russian economy, and her husband Professor Jagdish Bhagwati, a leading advocate for free trade and globalisation, were honoured with the India Abroad Lifetime Achievement Award. The couple, distinguished professors at Columbia University, received the award from writer Salman Rushdie, winner of the same award last year.

Also honoured was Dr Renu Khator, president and chancellor of the University of Houston. Dr Khator left India as a shy young bride 25 years ago, and is today among America's premier university administrators. She received the India Abroad Publisher's Special Award for Excellence.
