Love for youth & hate for protocol

March 26, 2008
NSUI and the Youth Congress had even set up membership booths within the campus and did an intensive drive to infuse new blood into their cadres.

Students, who waited for hours with flags and banners, were in for a big surprise when Rahul, also the head of the NSUI made an unscheduled stop and ran into the crowd.

Rahul waved, shook hands, signed autographs as the students cheered. "Rahul is our hope, our youth icon; Rahul Gandhi Zindabad."

The SPG, which has been on its toes every time Rahul steps out in the public, were seen running helter-skelter when he jumped into the crowd. However, they did not behave with the students in their usual manner (shoving and pushing). Instead, they could be seen requesting the students to be calm.

Congress members, who were present with Rahul told rediff.com, that he was not supposed to stop and meet the students. He was to interact with party workers at an auditorium in the college. The college was shut on Tuesday on account of Rahul's visit. Students had been awaiting the Congress lawmaker since 2 pm.
