An impressive flypast

March 23, 2008
Greeting the nation on Pakistan Day, Musharraf said, "Our thoughts go back to 1940 when, under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the Pakistan Resolution was passed at the Minto Park and led to the independence of Pakistan seven years later." He said the country's independence has been vigorously guarded for the past 60 years and will be maintained for ever through hard work, dedication and selfless work.

Musharraf, who was clad in an off-white 'sherwani', later reviewed the military parade and took salute from the marching columns of the three services.

Among the combat aircraft that participated in the flypast were F-16s, Mirage IIIs, F-7s, A-5s and JF-17 Thunder jets, which are the new fighter aircraft jointly developed by Pakistan and China. Air force chief Tanvir Mehmood Ahmed, flying an F-16 jet, led the flypast.
