Declaring that an era of 'real democracy' had begun, President Pervez Musharraf on Sunday said Pakistan's new government should usher in political stability and sustain economic growth while continuing the fight against terrorism.
Addressing the Pakistan Day parade at Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad, Musharraf extended his full support to new government, set to be formed by parties opposed to him -- Pakistan People's Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, and hoped it would maintain the pace of socio-economic development.
"We laid the foundations of real democracy in the past eight years and put Pakistan on the path of progress and development," he said before an impressive flypast by military aircraft and a parade by marching contingents from Pakistan's armed forces.
