Mumbai Sherif Indu Shahani, actor Rahul Bose, social activists and non-governmental
organisations joined hands with rediff.com to hold a candlelight vigil to fight against violence against women.
Addressing a 100-odd gathering at the Gateway of India in Mumbai on Friday, Shahani, Bose and the activists urged citizens to come together to root out the evil.
"Though Mumbai has been a safe city for women, recent incidents have cast doubts on that claim. If this city is to remain safe, it is up to us women -- and not the men -- to ensure that it is done," Shahani said.
